Fast Food Relationship

Fast Food Relationship

Open your mouth and taste, open your eyes and see-how good God is. Psalm 34:8MSG

We live in a fast-food generation that most of the time we don’t even stop to enjoy our food. It’s chew, swallow then repeat as fast as we can so that we can get to the next project or what I’m learning is called the next distraction. When I look at this scripture immediately what comes to mind is a wine taster. I know weird here I am talking about Jesus and alcohol. But seriously I think we could learn something. If you’ve never watched a wine tester you need to so you can get a visual, but I will try to explain. The tester doesn’t just chug a lug and move on, to test one glass of wine it could be on average 8 minutes. Heck most of us could devour a McDonald’s Quarter Pounder meal in that time. This tester will smell, look at it as they aerate the wine with each swirl, smell again, then finally they will use their taste. They are also known to cleanse their palate before tasting another glass, so they may get a true representation of the wine. They STOP to truly judge and enjoy that wine. If we don’t even do that with our food, how in the world are we supposed to taste and see that the Lord is good. We take Him in bite-size pieces where we can fit Him in. We don’t cleanse our palate by pushing the day away to truly step into fellowship with God. Yes, we should continually be in prayer, throughout the entire day, but do we ever sit down and have a meal with the Lord. Do we use our eyes to see His goodness in the day, can we recall how amazingly He showed up even in the small things like a front row parking spot in our day. It’s time that all the distractions that we think are so important are put aside so that we may step away for those precious moments with God. Let me tell you I have not arrived on this, I am still learning. I sound really good, but this is something I am still learning to walk out. As humans, everyone pulls on us and needs us in some sort of way, and God is just there patiently waiting to spend time with us. He isn’t pushy, He isn’t rude. He just politely drops clues to say hey I’m a good God and I love you and I want to hear about your day, bring me your wins and losses. So I think it’s time as the old saying goes to stop and smell the roses and thank God for them. Are you struggling in this I would love to stand in agreement with you as you do the same for me, that God would help us to stop and open our mouths and taste, that we would open our eyes and see, how Good He is. I don’t want to have a fast-food relationship with God, it’s time for a sit-down meal where everything else and all the distractions stop and God is my number one. I know you’re sitting there saying but Holly you have no clue what’s on my plate, then maybe like me it’s time to ask God what did He put on your plate and what did you just volunteer for without seeking Him.
